What is AI?

•AI, short for Artificial Intelligence, is all about creating smart computers or machines that can do things that normally require human intelligence. It’s like teaching computers to think and learn on their own.

•There are two main types of AI: Narrow AI and General AI. Narrow AI is designed to do specific tasks well, like recognizing faces or playing chess. General AI, on the other hand, is more like a super-smart computer that can think and learn in different situations, just like humans.

How Have You Used It Already?

  • Categorizing Email
  • Face ID
  • Personalize Recommendations From Streaming Services
  • Personalized Advertising
  • Virtual Assistants (Siri, Alexa)

Considerations

  • AI can “hallucinate” or generate false content that seems very convincing. You must check all content.
  • Built-in bias based on what’s on the internet
  • Copyright
  • Video/Audio: Deepfakes. Should you trust what you see/hear?
  • Academic Dishonesty? What does that mean now? Can we detect if students use AI? Should we allow them to?
